Broadmoor Village Book Signings

Aug. - Dec. 2010

Photos by: John Alexander, Sharon Caren & Michael Rocchetta

Well, as of August of 2010 I am now a published author! My book on my hometown of Broadmoor Village came out through Arcadia Publishing. I'm very proud of it too. To celebrate there were several events and book signing parties. The first was at Florey's Bookstore in Pacifica CA. where I currently live. The Jordanettes came by and performed a few songs with me. This was out first gig together.

In October, there was a book signing at the Colma Historical Association/Museum. Broadmoor is technically part of Colma and I also do docent work there at the museum.

Bunny Gillespie was there also. Bunny, along with her husband Ken, started the Daly City History Guild and Museum. I also do docent work there. Bunny has written several books on Daly City History including the two for Arcadia publishing on "Daly City" and "Westlake". I was very honored when she asked me to co-author a new book for Arcadia. The new book will not be for their "Images Of America" series, rather for a new series of books called "Then & Now". Thus, the new book will be called "Daly City Then & Now". It will be out in May 2011.

Finally in November, there was a book signing for the Daly City History Guild. Here I am doing a question/answer thang about Broadmoor Village, which is right in the middle of Daly City but not part of Daly City. In fact, one of the reasons that I wrote the book was because most people who live in Broadmoor Village "THINK" that they're in Daly City but in reality, they're in Broadmoor.

The Jordanettes performed with me at all three booksignings. They are creating quiet the repertoire as they didn't repeat one single song in all three shows.

At the end, Richard Rocchetta gave me a little plague on behalf of the Daly City History Guild. He is the Vice President on the board of the Guild. To be specific, it is refered to as the Daly City/Colma history Guild in honor of "Unincorporated Colma" not to be confused with the "Town of Colma" where the Colma Historical Association is. Want to know the difference? It's all explained in my book, you'll just have to buy it.

Trying to look as serious as possible. The Daly City/Colma History Guild puts on their events at the Doelger Senior Center in Daly City. It was formerly a junior High School known as Vista Mar and in 1965 and 1966 the school was called Fernando Rivera. The room this event took place in was where the elementary school district's "Honor" Choir" used to rehearse. I was in the Honor Choir in 1965 and 1966 and had not been back to this building or this room since. Along with writing the book about Broadmoor, this really was a "Coming Home" for me.

As John Mellencamp would say "I was born in a Small Town" and that is exactly what Broadmoor Village is to this day. So if you're not living in San Mateo County, or in California, get yourself a copy if you really want to know a little more about my background.

I'll plant you now and dig you later
