Daniel who owns Pirate Cat Radio (89.3 in San Francisco) started KPDO 89.3 in Pescadero CA. He e-mailed me and asked if we'd do the Launch Party and am I going to say "NO" to air play ??? I DON'T think so ;-)
For those of you who don't live in California on the coast and are wondering just where the heck Pescadero is, this sign should give you....a sign.
Pescadero is really a beautiful "All American" little town. For those of you waiting for the release of my new book on Broadmoor Village and are wondering just what Broadmoor, Daly City and Colma might have looked like before WW II, THIS IS IT !! Pescadero really is a throw back some 50 to 70 years in the past. It's still farm land, a small town where everyone says "Hi". It's much older than Broadmoor but still unincorporated like Broadmoor and comes under San Mateo County laws.
Here's the building that is now home to 89.3 radio
The "Boss"
I was telling Daniel that the studios weren't much bigger than Sun Records Studio in Memphis, TN.
We literally set up in a field. The first time for me and the guys.
This was the "Stage"
Here's Lars Howlett, photographer for the Hlaf Moon Bay Review. I just had to take his "Pic" cause the guys/gals taking the "Pics" usually DON'T get in them. :-) www.findlars.com
The "Audience" at 10:00 A.M.
The Montera Mountain Boys who came on after us. They're standing in front of Gertrude my very first car that I bought with my own money. I bought Gurtee brand new in Sept. 1976, but she's a 1977 Dodge B-200 Van. She got re-built a few years ago and every now and then she'll still help me with "Band Business"
There's still a lot of beautiful Victorian style houses and barns in Pescadero. This one is also a historical landmark.
Downtonn has Duartes Tavern, a historical landmark itself. The BEST Abaloni Steaks on the coast.
Pescadero's beautiful church, itself a landmark.
Are we in Alabama or California ????
Downtown Pescadero CA.
Just in time for Flag Day 2010 ! We were truly blessed to play an outdoor gig on a day and in a town like this. It's tough job gang. No REALLY...it's a tough job Dave |
