Westmoor High School

March 2008

Photos by: Sharon Caren & Mr. Darold Fredricks (Westmoor Teacher Science)

We're back to do another lunch hour concert at my old High School, Westmoor in Daly City, Ca. This is their current Sign / Marquee for announcements. The original wood sign that was carved and put up by the Class of '58 was chopped down in 1971 by students from cross town rivals Jefferson High School. The sign was at the bottom of the hill at the corner of the road that leads up to the parking lot. It happened on Monday night just before we were scheduled to play the varsity football game with Jefferson on that Friday. There were assemblies at both schools, hostilities, the cops got involved, the game was canceled until the following Tuesday. They had to bus us onto Jefferson's field. Kids were booing, throwing coke cans and candy wrappers. We then proceeded to "Kick Their Butts" 20-12. I even got to play in that one ! We were set to win the championship. All we had to do was beat South San Francisco High School. Funny, but for years the Football championship came down to Westmoor or South City. Unfortunately for us kids at Westmoor, playing two Football games in one week proved to be a bit too much. We lost the game with South City High 27-0 and they won the championship. Years later, at my "Day Job" I actually wouind up working with one of the guys from Jefferson High School that did the "Dirty Deed" . His name was Scott and I asked what they did with the sign. He said they took it to the beach had a beer party and burned it in the bon fire. Scott went on to become a supervisor and then a manager at this company. They STILL lost the game.

Westmoor opened in 1957 and the first graduating class was in 1958. 50 YEARS AGO ????? Schessh

The kidz were really cool. They made big signs and put up baloons. I told one of the cheerleaders, these type of signs were made by the cheerleaders back in the day. They would get up around 5:00 A.M. and go around to all the guys houses who were on the Varisty Football team the day of the game and put these signs up on the front doors. I got one as a sophomore the day we one the Sophomore Football Championship.

This WAS COOL !

This is Principal Dick Morosi. When I was going to Westmoor back in the early 70's Dick was a teacherl of our 'Other' cross town rival Serramonte High School. Dick went to Sacred Heart and graduated in 1961. He got his block from playing Baseball and, was All City, All Northen Cilifornia AND in the Sacred Heart Sports Hall Of Fame ! Oh yeah, he played Short Stop.

Drummers to the left and drummers to the right. That's Pete on the left, my right. Pete covered the gigs for five weeks while Greg, my regular drummer was recovering from an operation. He had Carpal Tunnel in one of his hands. He got the stitches out the day of the show. Pete did a GREAT job filling in to.

Hey, these guys are pretty good !

Don't tell anybody, but I think the singer's cute.

Ya know, I think she's right.

Eeeewwwww, I DON'T THINK SO

I'm tellin' you, these guys really ARE good !

It was typical weather for Daly City..COLD! I finally warmed up and was able to take off my coat. At our show last year, I wore my old Westmoor Block Jacket. This year, for something different, I pulled our my really old Football jersey. This is the one I wore when I was a Junior.

I think the first girl was right

Like my Block Jacket, the Jersey fits me better now than it did when I went to school here.

I think the first girl was right too.

Desteny's Child got nothin on us !

The only time I EVER got to stand on the benches is when I'm taking a guitar solo. This would've NEVER happened while I went to school here.

This guys has the hair...he just needs the sideburns. Oh yeah, and a guitar !

Still showing off.

This is really fun.

What ARE we gonna tell our parents when they find out we really like this music ??????

Dick & me after the show.

Still showing off. It's what I do BEST !

Me and my Brudda Rex ! Rex is the track coach for the "Weight Men". Those are the guys that throw the shot puts and discus. That's what I did when I was on the track team. Even made the finals when I was a senior. I didn't medal, but I got there anyway!
