This is Chief Petty Officer Otis A. Crapse, my Dad. This picture was taken in Hawaii, made into a post card, and sent to my sister Arline as a Birthday gift November 1941, just weeks before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I'm just taking a moment to honor ALL of our Vets from ALL conflicts on this day. God Bless and Thank You all!
The U.S.S. Craven (DD-382), the ship my father was serving on at the time. The Craven was one of many ships assigned to protect the U.S.S. Enterprise under the command of Admiral "Bull" Halsey. They had completed their mission of transporting Marine fighter pilots on Wake Island and returned to Pearl Harbor at 11:00 A.M. It was roughly four hours after Pearl Harbor had been attacked.
This week's "LOUNGE" Page is dedicated to the 45th anniversary of the very first time the Elvis Presley T.V. Special was aired on N.B.C. In 1968 it was NOT called the "Comeback" Special, a phrase tagged on many years after Presley passed. DIG IT!
